WHAT IS THRIVE RUGBY?
THRIVE RUGBY is a youth athletic development training programme aimed for any young rugby player between the ages of 14-18.
The programme has been developed by both a Strength & Conditioning Coach and Physiotherapist to ensure that not only are you hitting your performance goals but ensuring you stay on the field as well.

WHY THE THRIVE RUGBY TRAINING PROGRAMME?
Myself and Josh have always played rugby from a young age and we have always been interested in training and performance.
I was in the gym at the age of 14 at school and to be quite honest had no idea what I was doing.
As I got older I started to follow some "questionable" advice. I did get stronger but I also started to pick up some niggles.
I continued to train this way until eventually, whilst I had just started university to study physiotherapy, I tore my ACL (a ligament in the knee) which required surgery and a lengthy rehab process.
This led to 18 months out of rugby.

See the problem was although I did get stronger my training wasn't suited to what I actually needed as a rugby player.
Whilst at university studying - I had more free time because I was injured - I started to learn what the body actually needed.
Yes strength is important. But we need to work on strengthening the right areas. We need to work, not only strength, but mobility, movement competency, power, endurance to fully prepare our bodies for rugby.
Now, unfortunately Josh had a similar experience to myself....
Like most he discovered a passion for rugby and the gym at a young age and wanted to progress and gain an advantage. He was following a generic weightlifting programmes that other people were doing hoping it would make me a better athlete.
Similar to myself, he did start to get stronger and bigger however whilst playing for university he also ruptured his ACL requiring surgery and couldn’t play rugby for 12 months. After his initial rehab his training inside the gym didn’t change and went back play rugby.
Within the first game back he re injured his knee.
He knew something had to change.
From that point Josh and I started to work together to help him not only recover from his knee injury but come back stronger and more robust than ever.
At the time he was completing his Strength & Conditioning qualifications which further deepened his understanding of how to build an athletic and robust body to deal with the demands of your sport.
Combining a mixture of corrective exercises focusing on movement & strengthening specific areas around the knee and his new approach to training in general he has been able to return to rugby with no problems with his knee.

Now Josh and I are looking to impart our knowledge onto others so they don’t make the same mistakes we did!
